A 1 1/4-inch Schedule 40 pipe handrail with an actual diameter of 1.660 inches is spliced using an internal 1-inch Schedule 40 pipe splice measuring 4 inches long with an actual diameter of 1.315 inches. Two number 8 black self-drilling screws with a 3/8-inch minimum thread length are installed at the underside of the handrail on each side of the splice. Holes are predrilled in the exterior pipe, and the screws are painted black. Splices are located no more than 1 foot 0 inches from the support bracket.
