A steel beam frames into a column with a minimum 3/8-inch shear tab plate serving as backing for a complete joint penetration web weld. Continuity plates are provided on each side of the column, with thickness matching the beam flange or half the flange thickness with a 1/2-inch minimum. Erection bolts are installed as required by the contractor, and all continuity and stiffener plates match the column grade. The centerline of the girder aligns with the centerline of the shear plate.
