A structural steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column using top and bottom plates welded with one-quarter-inch fillet welds and a web connection plate. The connection utilizes five-sixteenth-inch plates on each side secured with three three-quarter-inch diameter through-bolts at three-inch typical spacing. A gap of one-half inch maximum is maintained between the beam end and the column face.
