An interior concrete column bears on a reinforced concrete footing with a slab-on-grade surrounding it. An expansion joint filler material separates the concrete column from the concrete slab. A concrete slab-on-grade blockout is designated to be poured after, reinforced with two number four by four-foot dowels on each side where intersecting control joints are absent. Control joints are placed typically in the slab surrounding the column assembly.
