Wood stud double top plate framing with maximum notch and bore limits. A maximum notch width of forty percent of the stud width and a maximum bore of fifty percent of the stud width are permitted, maintaining a minimum one-and-one-half-inch remaining width and a maximum six-inch span. A Simpson RPS18 tie strap is required on each side of the stud, centered on each plate at the notch or bore, whenever boring or notching exceeds one-and-three-quarter inches in two-by-four plates or two-and-three-quarter inches in two-by-six plates.
