A structural steel beam per plan bears above a hollow structural section column with a two-inch vertical gap between members. Plates measuring three-eighths by four by six inches are welded to each side of the column with one-quarter-inch fillet welds. Three-quarter-inch diameter A325-N bolts are centered in three-inch long vertical long slotted holes to accommodate movement. Bolts are installed snug tight and backed up one-quarter turn, with threads damaged at the nut end to prevent loosening.
