A three-eighths-inch gusset plate connects diagonal structural steel braces to the underside of a horizontal steel beam and vertical member. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each face of the beam web at the work point located at mid-depth of the beam. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size are applied typically along the gusset plate and stiffener connections.
