Maximum allowable unreinforced penetrations pass through a metal deck without concrete fill. Openings in a Type B deck top flute allow a maximum four-inch diameter, while all other deck types permit a maximum three-inch diameter through the top flute. Openings through the bottom flute permit a maximum one-and-one-quarter-inch diameter. Deck webs must remain uncut typically, and if openings are placed closer or larger than shown, the deck requires reinforcement per other details.
