A structural steel column base plate plan detail featuring a two-and-a-quarter-inch base plate welded to the column with complete joint penetration welds on the web and flanges. Weld tabs and backing are removed, and a one-half-inch fillet weld is specified typically. Gusset plates extend the greater of one foot six inches or the required length, anchored with bolts arranged around the column profile.
