A steel beam connects to a structural steel column flange, web, or face using a three-quarter-inch thick single shear plate welded to the column support. The web of the supported beam bolts to the shear plate using standard or horizontal short slotted holes sized per the structural schedule. Fillet welds secure the plate to the column support with a typical size of one-quarter inch at the fabricator's option. Edge distances and bolt spacings maintain standard minimums and maximums per AISC criteria for framed beam connections.
