A steel beam bears directly onto a steel column outfitted with a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule. Beam web stiffeners or beam web connection plates are welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds applied on three sides. The beam flange connects to the cap plate utilizing a fifty KSI plate matched to the beam flange taper, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds and connecting bolts.
