Metal decking parallels a steel beam with an overhang of one foot one inch or less, finished with a continuous three-sixteenths-inch bent closure plate that extends and laps two inches onto the beam flange. A three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld at twelve inches on center secures the closure plate to the beam. An intersecting steel beam frames into the main steel beam with a bolted connection. At interior deck edges for duct shaft openings, a ten gauge bent closure plate may be substituted for the three-sixteenths-inch closure plate.
