Longitudinal footing reinforcement continues through the step with a minimum two-foot lap splice. The vertical step height is limited to a maximum of two feet, and the horizontal transition length requires a minimum of four feet. Reinforcement at the step matches the size and spacing of the longitudinal footing reinforcement, with the vertical leg of the step maintaining a minimum dimension equal to the footing thickness.
