Cold-formed steel wall studs bear directly on a minimum 43-mil bottom track with a minimum flange width of one and one-quarter inches. Stud ends must bear on the track web with a maximum gap of one-eighth inch at non-bearing walls. Each stud is fastened to the track with a number eight screw. The track is secured to the concrete slab or stem wall using powder-actuated fasteners spaced at a maximum of sixteen inches on center with a minimum embedment of one and one-half inches, positioned a minimum of three inches from the edge of the slab or stem wall. Load-bearing shims or grout are provided between the underside of the bottom track and the support below at stud or joist locations where a gap greater than one-quarter inch occurs.
