A full depth welded shear plate designated XW connects a structural steel beam to a supporting member. A full depth stiffener plate is detailed with erection bolts as required. A five-sixteenth inch weld secures the shear plate, and quarter-inch welds are applied on three sides of the stiffener. A maximum clearance of three-quarters of an inch is maintained at the beam end.
