A structural steel column bears on a steel base plate sized per schedule, connected with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds to the column flanges and web. Four three-quarter-inch-diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods with heavy hex nuts or rod heads secure the plate to the concrete foundation, embedded eleven inches minimum unless noted otherwise. A one-and-a-half-inch minimum layer of nonshrink grout is placed beneath the base plate over the concrete footing. A finished bearing surface is provided at the column end and plate top, with washers sized per American Institute of Steel Construction recommendations.
