Two steel beams connect end-to-end with a 3/8-inch splice plate on each side, centered on the splice and bolted with a quantity of bolts specified per schedule shown in detail 1/SD.8. The splice plate is shop welded with a 5/16-inch field weld on three sides typically as required. The right-hand steel beam bears on a 3/4-inch thick bearing plate with 3/4-inch diameter machine bolts over a steel column sized per foundation plan. Stiffener plates, 3/8-inch thick on each side, are welded inside the beam web aligned with the column center using 1/4-inch fillet welds typical.
