An open-web steel joist bears directly on top of a wide-flange steel beam supporting a profiled steel deck. A one-eighth inch thick continuous bent plate is placed between the joists and welded with one-eighth inch welds at three inches on center typically. Additional one-eighth inch fillet welds secure the joist bearing seat to the supporting steel beam.
