Continuity plates and stiffener plates are welded to the structural steel member flanges and web to reinforce the connection zone. The continuity plate thickness is sized to the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch minimum, with fillet welds sized to five-eighths of the continuity plate thickness. Welds are applied on three sides typically, with specific sizing referenced to the structural notes. Stiffener plates at the continuity plate, main plate, and web 'z' region are detailed per the designated notes.
