An HSS 8x4x1/2 structural steel hollow structural section is positioned on centerline with an elevator rail support. The assembly is anchored by a three-quarter-inch by 8-inch by 1'-6" steel plate located at elevator rail support locations. Two L 4x4x3/8 angles, each 6 inches long, attach the HSS member to the base plate on each side with typical 1/4-inch fillet welds. Field coordination with architectural drawings and the elevator manufacturer is required.
