A pipe or duct penetrates a reinforced concrete beam featuring local depth drops and double ties. The opening permits a maximum pipe diameter of one-half the beam depth, maintaining a two-inch clearance at the top and bottom. Double ties are placed on either side of the penetration per the mechanical plan and structural requirements. Notes specify that no posts, holdowns, or similar concentrated loads are allowed within two feet of either side of the penetration, and a sleeve must be provided as required while contacting the engineer of record for penetrations larger than four inches.
