An exposed steel column extends into a concrete foundation with a specified minimum concrete cover. Three inches of minimum concrete cover surrounds the exposed steel column at the base above grade. Vertical and horizontal reinforcing bars provide confinement within the concrete pier. Clearances at the bottom and sides maintain standard concrete protective depths.
