A hollow structural section post connects to a structural steel beam below a Level 2 floor slab and metal deck. The top of the HSS post is capped with a one-quarter-inch thick plate secured with a seal weld on three sides. The beam attaches to the post using a five-sixteenth by ten-inch plate each side with vertical slotted holes, fastened with two seven-eighth-inch diameter through-bolts spaced six inches apart. A kicker brace angled at the underside of the beam provides additional lateral support.
