An open web steel joist receives supplementary angles welded to the web members on each side when concentrated loads exceed 100 pounds with an offset distance greater than 6 inches. The reinforcing angle size is L2x2x1/8 for K-series joists and L3x3x3/16 for LH-series joists, attached with a one-eighth-inch fillet weld.
