The assembly features a hollow structural section column supported by a one-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 base plate with one-and-one-eighth-inch diameter holes. The column is welded to the base plate with a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. The base plate sits on a one-and-one-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout atop a concrete footing. Anchorage is provided by four one-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods. A concrete plinth surrounds the base of the column, which includes a one-half-inch by seventeen-inch diameter ASTM A572 Grade 50 plate with weep holes and a chamfered top edge. All steel embedded in the plinth must be coated with an asphaltic emulsion.
