A ballast retainer is secured with half-inch diameter galvanized A-325 bolts complete with washers and nuts at a maximum spacing of two feet on center. The waterproofing layer consists of a minimum 0.060-inch thick butyl rubber or EPDM membrane extending beneath the ballast and up the parapet. A one-inch minimum overall asphalt protective cover sheet protects the base of the assembly. Sealant is applied at the top interface of the ballast retainer, and separate flashing requirements are referenced elsewhere on the sheet.
