A built-up connection at a hollow structural section post, with timber omitted for clarity. Stiffener plates are welded to the hollow structural section using quarter-inch fillet welds. Four-inch bearing plates are welded to the inside and outside edges of the beam and stiffener plates at all four corners with quarter-inch welds. Beam plates connect to the stiffener plates with typical quarter-inch fillet welds at the four corners.
