Reinforcing steel lap splices for structural boundary elements, columns, beams, walls, and slabs require specific development lengths and clearances. The lap length is defined as development length "Ld", with a minimum requirement of twelve bar diameters or twelve inches, whichever is greater. A clear spacing of one and a half inches minimum is maintained between parallel reinforcing bars of bar diameter "d".
