A structural steel hollow structural section post bears on a steel base plate anchored into a concrete footing below a concrete slab-on-grade. The assembly features a twelve-inch square by one-inch thick plate with a yield strength of fifty ksi for standard posts, or a ten-inch by six-inch by three-quarter-inch thick plate for specific hollow structural section sizes at corner conditions. Anchor bolts secure the base plate to the footing, while the concrete surface beneath is roughened to a quarter-inch amplitude. A thick polyfoam sleeve wraps the column, with the top half-inch removed after twenty-eight-day strength is achieved and filled with sealant. Slab dowels matching the slab reinforcement tie into the surrounding concrete.
