Metal studs are sized per plans and elevations, while furring studs are sized per sections. A four-inch by eighteen-gauge track segment with a length equal to dimension L minus one inch is installed at the top and bottom of the furring stud. This track is spaced at forty-eight inches on center and secured with three number ten sheet metal screws to each stud typically.
