A wide flange steel beam features a maximum one and one-half inch top flange cope with a specified depth and a maximum cope length. A slot plate is detailed around the web to accommodate the bottom plate length Lb, with the maximum slot width equal to the web thickness plus one-eighth of an inch. Shear studs are provided at a minimum of one per foot along the top flange supporting a composite metal deck slab. The connection to the support is based on the unhaunched wide flange beam size unless noted otherwise.
