An HSS beam connects to the web of a supporting wide flange beam. A quarter-inch thick cap plate is welded to the end of the HSS beam and extends and bends to accommodate a hanger, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides. A three-eighths inch thick stiffener plate aligns with the centerline of the beam against the wide flange web. A half-inch maximum gap is maintained between members, with a half-inch clearance at the bottom flange.
