A structural steel beam bears on a steel column topped with a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds welded on three sides. The beam attaches to the cap plate with bolted connections while the column sizing is determined per the structural plan and schedule.
