A hollow structural section column is welded to a one-inch thick steel base plate with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld across all sides, with the column end finished for full bearing. The base plate is anchored to a concrete footing by four three-quarters inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods featuring heavy hex nuts or rod heads and minimum washer sizes per AISC recommendations. A one and one-half inch minimum layer of non-shrink grout is provided beneath the base plate over the concrete footing. The anchor rods project a minimum of one and one-half inches above the grout and extend into the footing with bottom rod heads positioned eight inches below the top of the footing.
