A structural steel beam frames into a column with its web perpendicular to the beam axis. A cap plate measuring three-quarters of an inch thick by the column flange width plus one inch by the column depth plus one inch is connected with four three-quarter-inch diameter bolts at the beam gauge. Partial-height stiffener plates three-eighths of an inch thick are welded to both sides, matching the beam flange width and aligned with the column web, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds. An offset plate functions as a shear plate where a perpendicular beam occurs per plan, located within a maximum two-inch clearance.
