A hollow structural section post supports horizontal hollow structural section flat girts on opposing sides using top and bottom connecting plates. Each girt connects with four-and-one-half by one-quarter inch plates welded top and bottom with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds. Two three-quarters inch diameter machine bolts fasten each connection, utilizing short slotted holes on one end of each girt to accommodate movement. A one-eighth inch maximum clearance is maintained at each girt, with a three-quarter inch gap detailed between girt ends at the column face.
