Minimum allowable distances from the edge of web holes to the inside face of supports for wood I-joists. Hatched zones at each end indicate areas where no field cut holes are permitted. Notes specify that holes larger than one and one-half inches are prohibited in cantilevers, and one and one-half inch holes may be cut anywhere in the web outside of the hatched zones. Closely grouped round holes are permitted if the group perimeter meets the requirements for round or square holes. A reference table provides specific minimum dimensional clearances for round, square, and rectangular hole sizes across various I-joist depths and series.
