A steel bar joist of size per framing plan bears onto an HSS column supporting a wood roof framing system. A 3x4 wood rafter spaced at four feet on center sits at the strap location, while a 4x6 wood rafter spaced at four feet on center is used in the first bay adjacent to the wall. A Simpson joist hanger supports the framing and references detail 8 for connection specifications. A 3-and-one-half-inch by 12-gauge grade 50 steel strap is placed over the roof sheathing and secured with thirty-two 10d nails at each side of the truss, arranged in two staggered rows at two inches on center typically, spaced at four feet on center unless noted otherwise. Roof sheathing is fastened with two rows of edge nailing on top of a minimum 3x member wherever strap ties occur.
