A wide-flange steel beam connects to a vertical structural member using top and bottom flange plates measuring one inch by fourteen inches with twelve one-inch-diameter Group B bolts in standard holes at standard gauge. A half-inch web plate connects the beam web with eighteen one-inch-diameter Group B bolts in standard holes. Top and bottom stiffener plates, with width and thickness matching the flange plates, are welded with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the plates typically at the stiffener plates top and bottom.
