A hollow structural section hanger column extends upward to a one-and-a-half-inch connection plate welded with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides between the mezzanine and level two. Four seven-eighth-inch diameter bolts fasten the plate to the lower flange of the steel beam at a workable gauge. Half-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds to transfer the load.
