A structural steel column connects to a foundation through a Grade 50 base plate measuring 1 1/2 inches by 10 inches by 1 foot 6 inches. Four 3/4-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 105 anchor rods secure the assembly with typical 1/2-inch by 3-inch square plate washers. Complete joint penetration welds connect the column flanges, and 5/16-inch fillet welds secure the web per D1.8-DCW seismic detailing requirements. A grout access hole is centered in the plate. Anchor bolt nuts are tightened after the plate washers have been welded.
