An HSS header frames into a vertical HSS structural member using a one-half-inch thick knife plate welded inside a slotted HSS profile. The connection is secured with three seven-eighths-inch diameter ASTM A325 bolts in a vertical arrangement. A three-eighths-inch cap plate seals the top of the vertical HSS member with quarter-inch fillet welds.
