A moment splice connection between two beams of similar depth utilizes grade 50 plates and fillet welds. The bottom plate thickness matches the flange thickness of the cantilevered beam, with a minimum thickness of one-quarter inch. A half-inch minimum plate extends on both sides of the web, sized to the flange width of the cantilevered beam. Five-sixteenths inch fillet welds and complete joint penetration welds secure the connection components together.
