A reinforced concrete column rises from a spread footing, tied together by column dowels featuring standard hooks matching the column reinforcement. The construction joint at the base of the column is roughened and surrounded by a minimum of thirty-pound building paper. Vertical lap splices for the column reinforcement are provided per the general notes. Ties are spaced at a maximum of one-half the tie spacing within the connection zone, set relative to the top of the footing slab.
