Web openings are restricted to the middle half of the beam length, leaving the outer quarter lengths solid with no openings. The depth of the beam for openings is divided into thirds, constraining the height of circular and rectangular penetrations within the middle third. Transverse members and opening corners require reinforcing plates sized at twice the web thickness with a one-half inch minimum.
