An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using L4x4x1/2 structural steel angles welded to the top and bottom flanges spanning the column width. The angles are welded to the HSS column with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides typical, and to the HSS beam with 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides typical top and bottom. A maximum 1/2-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face. The connection utilizes the larger side of the HSS member unless otherwise noted.
