A continuous wide-flange beam bears atop a hollow structural section column with a one-inch clearance space and a quarter-inch shim space. Support is provided by L8x4x1/2 structural angles located at each side of the column. Each angle connects with two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts through vertical short slot holes. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the HSS column web with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. A three-sixteenths-inch weld is applied to three sides at the beam interface.
