A structural steel beam connects to a supporting column using a bolted shear plate welded to the beam web. The shear plate thickness matches the beam web thickness with a three-eighths inch minimum. Fillet welds attach the shear plate to the beam web, sized one-sixteenth inch less than the shear plate thickness. Erection bolts are installed as required by steel erectors. Dimensional callouts specify weld clearances, minimum distances from the end of the fillet weld to the edge of the weld access hole, and weld access hole geometry.
