A buckling-restrained brace collar assembly and shim insertion interface with a structural steel gusset plate and braced frame column. Two three-quarter inch thick by three-quarter inch wide by six-inch long shim plates are positioned within a one-inch space between the collar assembly and the gusset plate. The collar assembly is shipped loose and welded in the field using five-sixteenths inch fillet welds after the buckling-restrained brace is fully welded at both ends. Field notes direct the removal of a temporary rebar stop before sliding the collar into position against the gusset plate edge. Optional weld placements on the near or far side of the gusset plate and top or bottom of the core plate are permitted at the erector's option.
