A shallow steel beam with a top flange cope connects to the web of a supporting steel beam using a 3/8-inch thick shear plate welded to the support. The web of the shallow beam is fastened to the plate with two 3/4-inch diameter A325-N bolts spaced at 3-1/2 inches on center. The top flange features a maximum 5-inch cope length and a 2-inch maximum depth reduction, maintaining a 1/2-inch clearance from the support flange. Fillet welds connect the shear plate to the supporting beam flange.
